Fast Facts About Our Mentoring Model

Discover the unique and effective mentoring model of SHIELD Mentor Program. If you're new to our program, here are some fast facts that highlight the impact and benefits of our approach:

1. Facilitated Curriculum-Based Leadership Program: SHIELD provides an intensive, curriculum-based program designed to build leadership skills in youth. Our structured approach ensures that participants gain essential knowledge and develop key leadership qualities.

2. Engaging Workshops and Mentor Correspondence: We offer group mentoring workshops and personalized mentor correspondence for youth. Through these interactions, we focus on a range of leadership development topics. Our goal is to guide young individuals away from poor life decisions, engage them in constructive activities, and empower them to create a positive future.

3. Training Self-Sufficient Role Models: At SHIELD, we believe in the power of community involvement. We train community members who share the mentoring spirit to become self-sufficient role models. Together, youth and adults participate in interactive workshops and team-building exercises, fostering positive connections and growth.

4. Constructive and Meaningful Mentoring Sessions: Our mentoring sessions provide a nurturing environment for young individuals. We focus on equipping them with a plan, a task, and a path toward personal development. Through constructive and meaningful programs, we guide youth on their journey to success.

5. Integration of Multiple Mentoring Approaches: SHIELD specializes in the integration of group mentoring, online mentoring, and peer mentoring. By incorporating different mentoring modalities, we ensure that youth receive a wide range of positive influences from multiple individuals, enhancing their personal growth.

6. Dual Focus: We offer two-fold services. Firstly, we train community members to become role models, spreading the mentoring spirit throughout the community. Secondly, we provide mentoring sessions where youth can engage in constructive and meaningful programs tailored to their development.

7. Commitment to Effective Practice: SHIELD follows the Elements of Effective Practice (EEP) developed by MENTOR. These research and evidence-based standards and guidelines ensure the safe and effective operation of our mentoring programs. We prioritize best practices in mentor and mentee recruitment, screening, training, matching, monitoring, support, and closure.
