The Speaker Agreement outlines the expected responsibilities of guest speakers. Please read through the items listed below.
I understand that guest speaking is voluntary and uncompensated. I understand that if I am accepted as a speaker and my speaking opportunity is canceled for any reason, no expenses I may have incurred in planning for or attending the speaking event will be compensated.
I will fill out my user profile, including my full name and a photo, with the understanding that my information may not display properly if this information is not provided in time for the schedule.
Guest Speaker Integrity
Guest speakers are selected based on a combination of content, speaker experience, and description. Please note, the SHIELD Mentor Program staff reserve the right to remove a guest speaker at their own discretion.
If I am unable to devote the time and energy to this effort, I will notify the SHIELD Mentor Program.
I understand that if I am participating in a panel that I am expected to communicate with the other speakers in my engagement before the speaking event. I understand that if I am delivering a group or solo presentation, I am expected to spend a significant amount of time preparing for my speaking engagement before the event.
To aid in schedule planning, I will also communicate any of the following with my co-presenters:
Event format (panel, Q&A, etc…)
Changes to my speaker lineup
I understand that the material I am presenting at the speaking event is my own original material or is material that I have the legal right to present.
I understand that I am responsible for obtaining any required consents, permissions, and clearances to display or otherwise use any materials (both visual and audio) that I incorporate in my speaking event.
Staying On Topic and On-Time
I understand that staying focused on the topic outlined in the title and description of my speaking engagement is extremely important. During my speaking event, I pledge to stay focused on the topic at hand and make sure that the information presented adheres to the age level (parent, elementary, middle, or high school) designated for my speaking event.
Code of Conduct
Speakers are expected to behave in accordance with professional standards, the Code of Conduct, and applicable laws.
Speakers should not use sexual language, images, activities, or other material at the speaking event that could constitute harassment in their talks. In regards to sexual imagery, at a minimum, no images containing nudity or expressions of sexual relationships that might be deemed inappropriate for a business environment should be used. In addition, please consider the local societal customs of the hosting country when deciding what is deemed appropriate for a business environment.
Harassment includes but is not limited to the use of abusive, offensive, or degrading language, intimidation, stalking, harassing photography or recording, inappropriate physical contact, sexual imagery, and unwelcome sexual advances or requests for sexual favors.
I understand that my slides and on-stage remarks must abide by the Code of Conduct. I understand that my slides may be reviewed ahead of time and that I may need to modify my presentation if it does not adhere to the Code of Conduct. I also understand that if, while I am presenting, I fail to abide by the spirit of the Code of Conduct, my event recording can be removed.
If a speaker violates the speaker agreement, the SHIELD Mentor Program staff or its designated representatives will take appropriate action such as, but not limited to:
Warn the speaker of their misconduct
End a talk early
Not publish or un-publish the content and recording
Not allow the speaker to present at a SHIELD Mentor Program event for a period of time or indefinitely
I have read the Media Policy and understand that my speaking event will be recorded and made publicly available following the speaking event.
Applicable Law and Venue
All disputes regarding the construction, interpretation, and our obligations under this Agreement will be governed by the laws of the State of North Carolina, notwithstanding any of that state’s laws to the contrary, regardless of the location of the speaking engagement. The venue and jurisdiction for the resolution of any such disputes will be Greensboro, NC.
