About the Camp
SHIELD Engineering Summer Camps are week-long experiences where students learn robotics by building, coding, and problem-solving in a structured, mentor-led environment.
Campers use their XRP robot to apply what they learn and explore how these same skills are used in full-size competition robots.
This camp is about more than robotics. It helps young people:

This camp is designed to welcome young people at every starting point.
Whether your child is brand new to robotics or already has experience, they will be guided through hands-on learning in a supportive environment where curiosity and effort matter most.
Each week, we structure learning experiences that support beginner, intermediate, and advanced learners—so every camper can grow, stay engaged, and be challenged at the right level.
All that’s needed is an open mind and a willingness to learn.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does my child need prior robotics experience?
No. This camp is designed to welcome beginners. Students who are new to robotics are encouraged to start with Week 1. Each week supports different experience levels so every camper can grow with confidence.
Will my child build and take home a robot?
Yes. Each camper will build and take home an XRP robot. This robot is used throughout camp to learn coding, wiring, and engineering concepts and can continue to be used at home.
What grade levels can attend?
This camp is open to rising 7th–12th grade students.
Can my child attend more than one week?
Yes. Campers may attend multiple weeks. Those who do will continue building on the same robot and deepening their skills. Only one XRP robot is provided per camper.
What days and hours does the camp run?
Camp runs Tuesday–Friday from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM.
Each session is a 4-day camp experience designed for focused, hands-on learning.
Optional extended care is available:

What should my child bring each day?
Campers should bring:

A packed lunch

A drink

A nut-free snack
All food should not require refrigeration or heating. Please label all items with your child’s name.
How much does the camp cost?
The cost of camp is $360 per week.
A $75 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your camper’s spot and is applied toward the total cost. The remaining balance of $285 is due by 5:00 PM on the Friday before your scheduled camp week.
Extended care options are available for an additional cost.
Financial assistance is available by request only.
Is there a payment plan available?
Yes. Families may secure their spot with the $75 deposit and pay the remaining balance before their scheduled camp week. Families may also choose to pay in full for multiple weeks in advance.

What happens after the summer camp?
Students can continue building their skills through the SHIELD Robotics Club, which meets once per month on the second Saturday from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. The club focuses on ongoing robotics, engineering, and team-based learning.
